Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Perhaps, listed in my memories for the top 2 villages I can count as my favorites, is Rothenburg ob der Tauber, not to be confused with Rothenburg which is about 2 hours away from there. Growing up close to here meant I was in Rothenburg ob der Tauber many times as a small boy. You can imagine how a child's senses would be delighted being in a village such as this. It is a walled in village, larger than some but the charm is intact. Coziness in a fortress. Perfect.

We stayed in the hotel pictured here below (large building middle of picture) once. The building to the right of it was also the hotel with a drugstore on the bottom corner of the building.

I remember the beds were made up what seemed like a mountain of blankets on top with fluffy pillows. In the morning when we left the room to walk around, a maid would come in and throw open the windows and hang the bedding from it. See all the windows in the picture? They would all have bedding from guests hanging out until around noon, catching the fresh air.

Rothenberg ob der Tauber. It's time for another visit. Maybe stay forever this time.
